Success in Sketty Park

foodSketty Park is a community full of life and activity, and the beginning of this year has been no different, providing us with lots of reasons to celebrate.

With many local residents meeting in clubs and groups around the area, sharing interests, skills and enjoying valuable social times together. As we all know a much loved part of socialising often happens around food; yum yum! This provided an opportunity for a group of residents involved in local activities to come together to learn new skills around the area of food preparation.

With the support of the new Communities First team in Sketty Park, a training course in ‘Level 2 Food Safety in Catering’ was organised in March 2009. 17 local people attended the training day and represented an impressive 8 groups who are active around the area. Among them were residents involved in the Community Centre, Craft and Dressmaking Groups, Bowls Group, local Churches and Sketty Youth Team.

The day represented a diverse range of interests and ages. The youngest person just 14 years old to the most mature member, who recently celebrated her 88th birthday. Not only was local resident Betty Griffin the oldest person attending on the day, but also the oldest person in Wales to pass the course. Well done Betty;  a double celebration.

Following the success of this training day the Communities First team organised a presentation event where those who attended the training day came, were presented with their well earned certificates, and enjoyed more time together by sharing some local fish and chips and taking part in a quiz. A huge well done everyone!
